United Way's Community Impact

We are committed to advancing the common good and creating opportunities for all by focusing on the building blocks of a good life - Education, Income, and Health.

During these difficult times, there is a real need for innovative solutions to improve lives and bring about lasting changes in our community. United Way of Roanoke Valley engaged in a strategic planning process designed to make our United Way the most relevant and effective force possible.

With the help of over 80 business and community leaders, countless hours of volunteer research and many hours of in-depth discussion, UWRV began to form an action plan to advance the common good which was unveiled in June 2011.  Advancing the common good is about creating opportunities for a better life for everyone in the Roanoke Valley by focusing on Education, Income and Health.

Hear from local Education, Income and Health champions talk about these three key components and how they affect the quality of life in our area.

Advancing the common good is less about helping one person at a time and more about changing systems to help all of us. We are all connected and interdependent.  With this plan, we are uniquely positioned to drive change that will create opportunities for improving more lives. United Way is committed to building on our existing strengths and implementing new strategies to achieve measurable progress over time in education, income and health. A network of health and human service programs operated by United Way impact partners and coalition partners addresses these critical impact areas.  More than 70,000 Roanoke Valley residents are able to get important services that improve their lives through UW partners.  At the same time, our region is strengthened by United Way's community partnerships with people across the Valley - from business, government, faith groups, and ordinary citizens.  Together, we look at data to understand the needs and probe underlying causes of our community's most serious problems. That's how United Way can really make an impact on the issues that matter. Check out Roanoke Valley's profile by clicking on the image below:
