Campaign Coordinator Spotlight: Rutherfoord

We asked Ann Dyer, Becky Evans, and Bob Nave of Rutherfoord to share their experiences as Employee Campaign Managers (ECM). Rutherfoord is a Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC company that provides expertise to clients in commercial insurance, risk management, surety bonding, employee benefits, international and personal insurance. They were nominated for the Campaign Coordinator Spotlight for their enduring support of the United Way mission and the passion and excitement they bring to supporting our community.

When and how did you learn about United Way?

From others in the Roanoke Rutherfoord office who have worked the United Way campaigns for over 25 years.

Share an example of how you’ve volunteered or advocated for United Way of Roanoke Valley.  How did it make you feel?

We have been a part of our campaign team for 15 years.  We have visited Goodwill Industries, Feeding America, Greenvale School, LOA, and many other impact partners, and have had various agencies visit our office. It made us feel that our United Way dollars are wisely invested.

Tell us about someone or something that inspires you to support United Way of Roanoke Valley.

We strive to show the Roanoke and surrounding communities and the UWRV partner agencies how much we care to give back to others in need of a better life and watch how our support impacts the growth of our community.

Share one or two activities or strategies that you have found successful to raise support of United Way of Roanoke Valley.

Food always works!!!  Raffles, silent auctions, and prizes for those participating as we meet certain goals.  Making it fun and inclusive is extremely important for encouraging participation.

What is the most memorable thing that has happened during your time as an ECM?

What do you wish other people knew about United Way of Roanoke Valley?

I wish people would understand all of the work that goes into making sure donor dollars are spent wisely.
