Tocqueville Society

The Tocqueville Society honors local philanthropic leaders who contribute $10,000 or more annually to United Way. Our local society was established in 1990 as an affiliate of the national Tocqueville Society Program of United Way Worldwide.

Ordre d'Egalite Members contributing $50,000-$74,999
Ordre de Liberte Members contributing $25,000 -$49,000
Ordre de Bienfaisance Members contributing $15,000- $24,999
Ordre de Loyaute Members contributing $12,500- $14,999
Membres de la Societe Members contributing $10,000-$12,499




Presidents Circle

Donors whose annual contributions reach $1,000 - $9,999 are distinguished members of the Presidents Circle, a multi-level recongnition that honors Virginia's heritage as the Mother of United States Presidents.The Presidents Circle dates back to 1983. 

Thomas Jefferson Circle Members contributing $5,000-$9,999
James Madison Circle Members contributing $2,500-$4,999
George Washington Circle Members contributing $1,000-$2,499


Commonwealth Society

Emerging leadership givers whose gifts are between $500-$999 are recognized as members of the Commonwealth Society, named after the beautiful Commonwealth of Virginia. 


The Catalyst group was established in 2008 in an effort to engage younger philanthropists in personal development and community involvement through their support of United Way.  Members are community-oriented individuals or couples, 40 years old or younger, contributing an annual gift of $250 or more.
