Optimal Health For All
Health is much more than a visit to the doctor’s office; it begins where we live, learn, work, and play. By working to create healthier environments throughout the Roanoke Valley, we empower all members of our community to achieve optimal health.
Healthy Roanoke Valley (HRV) is a partnership of more than 50 organizations committed to transforming the way our community thinks about and values health. Our foundation is built on “collective impact” allowing us to address complex issues with high-impact results. As a collective, the Healthy Roanoke Valley partnership focuses on the social determinants of health, with success through:
- shared community vision
- evidence-based decision making
- collaborative action
- investment and sustainability
An initiative of United Way of Roanoke Valley, HRV was born from the Roanoke Valley Community Health Assessment conducted by Carilion Clinic. This ongoing, triennial analysis identifies key priorities for improving health outcomes with measurable results, including access to primary, behavioral and oral healthcare, and preventative measures and coordination of care.
“Struggling individuals or families depend on our ability to form a strong and cohesive network of services and support to get them back on track. This takes a tremendous investment of time and a lot of trust-building to introduce this new way of thinking and change the mindset on what that looks like,” said Abby Verdillo Hamilton, Vice President of Community Impact for United Way of Roanoke Valley.
