Description: Provides free legal assistance in many types of civil matters of critical importance to low-income individuals, including programs involving separation and divorce, consumer disputes, bankruptcy, eligibility for various government benefits, landlord-tenant disputes, and other issues. This nonprofit legal aid society collaborates closely with the Legal Aid Society of Roanoke Valley and performs intake for both organizations. Intake is done by telephone. Services range from brief advice to representation in court, depending on client needs, the type of case, and available resources. Assistance is provided either by a BRLS attorney, local volunteer attorneys, or by referral to the Legal Aid Society of Roanoke Valley.
