Current NewsUnited Way Impact Fund Puts $2.75 Million How long does it take to spend $2.75 million? Roughly 1,500 hours, in the case of United Way of Roanoke Valley’s annual Community Investment Process. That’s the collective time donated by 87 volunteers who studied funding applications and recommended how to allocate money from the United Way Impact Fund. At its June 2007 meeting, the United Way Board of Directors approved a Community Investment package worth $2,752,776 to be shared among 61 local health and human service programs. The funds represent contributions from about 28,000 Roanoke Valley residents to the 2006 United Way Community Campaign. Supported programs are operated by United Way’s 27 partner agencies and selected for their ability to produce results in four impact areas defined by the organization’s vision:
The allocations package represents a two percent increase from United Way’s 2006 Community Investment, according to UWRV board chair Kathy Stockburger. “We believe the United Way Impact Fund offers people the most effective and efficient way to invest in the well-being of our community,” she said. “No other charity enables you to spread one gift among so many worthy causes.” Allocations are for use by programs during the year ending June 30, 2008.
