The Federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program helps nonprofits and government agencies provide shelter, food and supportive services for the nation's hungry, homeless, and people in economic crisis. Expenditures are limited to food, meals, shelter, rent/mortgage assistance, and utility assistance.
For 2012, over $39,000 will be distributed to nonprofits in Roanoke City by the Local Emergency Food and Shelter Board, which is administered by United Way of Roanoke Valley. This board is responsible for:
- Advertising funds availability
- Establishing priorities among community needs
- Allocating funds to nonprofits and government emergency food and shelter agencies
- Helping monitor program compliance
The application process begins in February. If you are interested in applying for EFSP funds, please contact Kristin Adkins, Community Impact Manager at 540.777.4210.
