Vision Council Seeks Input from Advocates for Strong Families

Executive directors or program leaders with Roanoke Valley agencies working to strengthen families are invited to discuss current and emerging needs at a meeting on Thursday, Nov. 9 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Loudon Avenue Christian Church.

The meeting is sponsored by United Way’s Strengthening Families Vision Council, chaired by Rev. Bill Lee, church pastor, and co-chair Kerri Thornton of Carilion Clinic. Both are United Way board members.

This meeting is an important step in refreshing United Way’s strategic funding priorities and vision based on analysis of key community indicators. Once developed and approved by the Board of Directors, the results will help guide Community Investment volunteers who review program funding applications and allocate United Way Impact Fund contributions.

Attendees will be provided with advance copies of research and statistics that the Vision Council has been reviewing since convening in mid-October. You are encouraged to come to the meeting with any additional information, research or statistics to help enrich the discussion.

To receive the information and directions to the church, please notify United Way of your intent to participate by noon on Monday, Nov. 6. Contact Abby Verdillo, Director of Community Impact, at 777-4206 or abby@uwrv.org.
